"Great item, great price, no problems whatsoever..." 2009-08-17
By W. Lindsey (Klamath Falls, OR USA)
This Thule hitch-mount "hard-shell" cargo carrier I envisioned as just what was needed to double the effective size of my 2007 Toyota Corolla's trunk. It has worked out exactly as expected. It's 13 cu. ft. of space doubles the a little more than 13 cu. ft. space of the trunk.

Everything was in the box (for both 1 1/4" and 2" hitch receivers), shipping was free (and pretty quick) in addition to $40 or so off the list price by buying from Amazon, assembly and installation was a snap (I already had a 1 1/4" receiver mounted on my Corolla along with the flat plug type wiring necessary for the included lights), and it has done just what I needed on a 3000 mile trip in the West in May - haul my camping equipment while still having the car trunk available for everything else I needed.

Only "issue" is just what I expected from putting such a contrapation on the back of my relatively low slung Corolla, i.e., it will occasionally drag when going up or down a sharp incline. However, this is usually quite avoidable by paying attention by going slowly up and down such inclines (like pulling into or out of a gas station or convenience store) and taking such inclines at an angle (i.e., not perpendicular to the street).

A major upside of these type carriers is that one gets less wind drag and better mileage from such this configuration versus the high wind drag of roof mounted carriers. Evidence? I got over 41 mpg on my noted 3000 mile trip! I also does not obstruct the view out the back window at all essentially.

 "Buyer Beware!!" 2009-01-12
By Dr. Guy Bear
Wrong product packaged by Thule!

The 665C should fit 2" and 1 1/4" Trailer Hitches. The product packaged by Thule only works on 1 1/4".

I had to by a converter from a local company at the cost to me of $40 to make this work.

This product cost over $60 to ship, so I did not return it to Amazon.

Buyer Beware! When buying large items, buy local!! The cost to return an expense item puts the buyer in a tough spot.

PS: Thule was difficult to deal with!!! They would NOT admit they packaged the wrong carrier.

 "Amazon did good" 2008-12-29
By Max Sehon (Houston ,TX)
Item came as described - Good Deal compared to other companies - Shipping estimate was on target - I didn't grade them with the highest marks because I did not prefer the shipping method that came free with the order. With USPS, UPS or FEDEX it arrives without scheduling someone to be there...I had to schedule an appointment. Delivery service did arrive in the time frame scheduled though. Perhaps worth getting the free shipping...I just don't like having to schedule four hours of staying home to get my package...

 "Excellent product" 2009-09-03
By S. Guerra (New Orleans, LA)
The Thule bicycle fork mounts worked great. It was very easy to install, I simply screwed them down to the floor boards of a utility trailer using some dry wall screws and away we went. I drove from New Orleans to North Carolina and the bikes remained secure on the trailer the entire trip. They worked great.

"Perfect for Transporting Bikes in CRV" 2009-05-26
By Penny Pincher (Glendale, AZ)
We have a Honda CRV and needed a way to transport bikes. Since the spare tire is mounted on the back of the vehicle it is harder to find a bike rack for it. We don't have a hitch, so it would be very costly to get one installed and then pay for a rack. We bought two sets of the fork mounts and installed them on a 2X6 piece of scrap wood (51 cents at Home Depot) which fits perfectly inside the back of the CRV. Problem solved for not much fuss or money!

 "Works Great" 2008-06-21
By Jaime R. Silva (Ft Worth, TX)
Ordered three to mount on two wood planks 4-feet long (2x12) and put in back of truck. Transporting three bikes is easy now. Planks offer a very stable mount for the bicycles. Placed two fork mounts on one plank and the third one in the center of the second plank. two bikes face forward and the other back.

"affordable alternative to expensive bike rack" 2008-06-14
By John Zimmerlee (Marietta GA)
Make your own rack or just bolt this mount where you want your bike and clamp it down.

I used a piece of plywood, staggered two of these, and put in the back of a minivan. Both bikes are inside and stable.

This mount is superior to both Diamond brand models, and probably better than those from Hollywood and Pyramid. I like the heavy base and the position of the fork receiver centered over the base.

"Excellent mount for carrying bikes" 2008-02-15

The mount works fine, it holds the bikes firmly. I installed them over a carrying cart and over 100 Kmh the bikes kept firmly attached to it.

I strongly recommend the product

 "Soccer Mom" 2009-09-12
By K.D. (WI, USA)
Great rack. Our maiden voyage with the rack was with 4 bikes loaded on an 800 mile trip. No issues. All 4 bikes fit - did not have to alter spacing. There was a little wobble in a couple of places, but I just stuck a piece of plastic shim in those. The shims stayed put and no wobble issues. It probably would have worked just fine without, the shimming just made me feel better. I do recommend using bungee cords with the rack to more securely attach the bikes, but this is true with any car bike rack. I love the fold down feature for when you are not carrying bikes. I found it easy to assemble and install by myself (I am a smallerish mom). Good price and VERY fast shipping.

"Warning: Spare Tire on back door!" 2009-08-24
By Richard G. Cook (Mountain View, CA)
Great hitch-mount bike rack for a fair price with the exception that it doesn't fit on vehicles that put spare tires on the back (such as the 2008 Rav4 we installed it on.)

I didn't read any reviews warning us about that.

We thought we were saving $50 by getting this instead of a Thule/Yakima rack, but that savings is going to be eaten up by purchasing a hitch extension.

Lame, very very lame.

 "Great bike rack" 2009-08-22
By T. Yeager (Norton, Kansas United States)
This rack is great. I am able to carry 2 adult bikes and 2 children's bikes. It takes a little work to get the children's bikes on the rack, but the rack is made so that there are a variety of ways to attach bikes. I think it would be hard to find a bike that you couldn't attach to this rack unless you had a toddler's bike. The only thing I would change is how easy it is to attach the rack to my hitch. It's not difficult, but it takes time to tighten the bolt/nut completely so that the hitch doesn't wobble. We only use our bike rack every other week or so in the summer. It would be nice to take it off except when we need it, but it's enough of a hassle to tighten the bolt that we generally just leave it on (and I worry that if I tighten/loosen the bolt too often it will get stripped). Oh, and the hatchback access is perfect. The rack leans back so you can get into the back of your vehicle without going all the way to the ground to drag if you forget it. One last thing - if your vehicle has a sensor for backing into things, the rack will sometimes set off the sensor when you are backing. Not a problem as long as you are expecting it.

 "Great Bike Rack" 2009-08-18
By Dew (Denver, CO)
At first I was a little leery spending so much money on a bike rack. I'm amazed at how easy it is to use. It literally takes seconds to pop your bike on the rack and lock it down for travel. I've had the rack 2 months now and I'm glad that I bought it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat and would recommend it to friends. It was easy to mount. Don't forget to buy the locking hitch pin which is sold separately.

 "Nice Rack" 2009-04-28
By E. Young Jr. (NH)
Debated on what style rack and decided that this was the best option for me. Being a mt. biker this was my choice for the ease of transporting. Mt bikes have all sorts of frame designs and shock placements. Buddy has a roof rack and seemed more of a pain than I wanted. Researched and decided on this. Putting it together wasn't bad. Not difficult to remove from the car. A little heavy but easier than my Thule Speedway. Another reason is the 2 bike add on which I also purchased. Works great. Also bought the locks to protect my investment. Real happy with everything.

"Best bike rack on the market by far." 2009-04-16
By Ricardo Aguilar-chavez (Fresno, CA)
I own a 2008 Santa Cruz Nomad and 2005 Jamis Dakar XLT 1.0. If anyone is familiar with these bikes they would recognize the frame design and know that any other type of rack system would simply not work. I previously had tried a Yakima and it just didn't cut it for me. The Thule 916 T2 system is excellent, very well built and easy to load your bikes. I highly recommend as the best bike rack out in the market today. Very well worth the price.

 "Durable, easy-to-use rack" 2008-12-26
By C. Kennedy (Norman, OK)
We have owned this rack for about two years now and it is amazingly easy to use. The rack isn't light, so expect to work a bit to get it onto your hitch, but once on, it is very convenient. If you have a rear hatch, you can fold the rack down and get things out of the back without removing your bikes (not that it would be hard to take them off and put them back on, putting both bikes on the rack takes about two minutes at the most.

 "Great box!" 2009-08-17
By Michelle (Ohio)
I bought this box from somewhere other than Amazon as they wouldn't price match ($100 less). Just took delivery today and had it all hooked up and installed in about half an hour. Drove through a hard rain on my way home and the inside of the box was dry when I got home. Cargo box is larger than pictures make it look, but I can't wait to try it out in the near future -- looks like it will hold a lot!

"Buy this item locally if you can - Amazon can't get order out complete!" 2009-07-28
By Dianne M. Gleixner
I chose this luggage box because it swings out of the way, but I couldn't order it locally and receive it in time for our upcoming vacation. Amazon said they could get it to me in just a few days. Perfect, I thought! It actually arrived a day earlier than expected - better yet, I thought! NOT SO FAST - I only received box 2 of 2! Called Amazon - after hours (really!) on the phone they said they'd get a replacement order out to me, hoping it would make it in time. The day before we're to leave, the 2nd order arrives - AGAIN BOX 2 of 2! I was furious! Now I have 2 charges on my CC, nothing to put my luggage in, and am waiting for my refund. Amazon has lost me as a customer. Save time - buy or order it locally, even if you have to spend more, it'll be worth it in the long run.

 "Worth every dime" 2009-07-15
By T. Conners
We own a 21 cu. ft. Thule rooftop box that has served us well and with the annual vacation coming up, we decided we needed a little more cargo space for the 400 mile trek. I considered the hitch mounted platforms with a cargo bag, but didn't feel comfortable with the security that provided. I also didn't want to get a ticket for blocking my license plate (no front plates in PA). The 13 cu. ft. addition this box provided was perfect.

Everything about getting and using this box was about as easy as they get. Order was the typical Amazon 1,2,3 process. No issues. The box showed up via common carrier about a week later, and by appointment. The shipping company was great.

Setup was a piece of cake and went onto the back of my Yukon XL with zero issue after a little assembly. A $10 adapter from the parts store to plugin in the lights to my trailer port and I was done. The swing out feature is fantastic and my lift gate clears with about 2-3 inches.

Driving with this box on the back was a non-event. I couldn't even tell it was there...Once mounted and locked on you forgot about it until it was time to empty it.

This purchase was worth every dime!

 "great item" 2009-02-24
By M. Garza (TX)
We received this cargo box within a week of ordering it... wow! That is an awesome job by Amazon to appropriate resources to make this happen as a free shipping item. I knew when I ordered the item that my Toyota Sequoia would need an adapter for the brake lights, but that took a quick trip to the Toyota dealership and $11 later... poof! instant brake lights! I have a Yakima roof rack that has worked for years with zero issues and was a little hesitant about using a Thule since I was not very experienced with the line. I was also concerned about the grey color of the upper box since the trim and the Yakima are black. However, I actually see the merit in the grey top for the sake of safety. The grey contrast makes it really easy for lovely tailgaters to space themselves more appropriately from the vehicle. I am not sure if the grey color for contrast was an intentional design, but I am not complaining anymore. For my particular vehicle model I have only one option for the pin placement at the hitch since the electric hookup is too close to the hitch. If I wanted to put the lock on the opposite side of the electric hookup I have to unscrew the hookup to make room for the pin insertion. Let's hear it for the engineer who came up with that idea! The box is solid and doesn't rock around when on the move. We go camping a lot and we have increased our family of 5's sq. feet tremendously. Thanks, again, Amazon for the speedy delivery.

 "Thule Rack exceeds expectations" 2009-09-14
By William L. Foster (Mystic, CT)
The rack arrived within a week of ordering. Assembly took less than 5 minutes and was simple to do. Rack fits 2" receiver perfectly. A bolt is screwed into one of the receiver holes to fasten the rack. Finger tight would probably do but I take a 3/4" wrench to snug it up. It comes with a strap that keeps the bikes firmly fastened to the rack. Rubber hold-downs work well and can be adjusted to fit most bikes. Rack is lightweight and easy to insert into receiver as well as remove. Although rack can be lowered via a hinge to allow hatchbacks to open, you are advised to not do it with bikes attached. All-in-all, a rugged, lightweight, simple rack that gives you confidence that your bikes will arrive when you do without damage.

"Thule 2-bike hitch mount rack" 2009-08-28
By A. William Ceglia
The "bolt in" hitch is a bit more inconvenient than a pin. If you want to lock it, you must order a special locking bolt. Bolt-in provides a little more stability, however. I keep a ratchet wrench in my truck now. The rubber or neoprene fasteners slide inward on the support bars for the outside mounted bike during transport. Although it has happened with each use, it has not caused a problem, yet. Its okay, it gets the job done.

This bike rack worked perfectly for us. My husband loves his bike and put a lot of extras into it. I was surprised that he approved of this rack and had no complaints.  "Thule Bike Hitch" 2009-04-03
By William Cavanaugh
I found the Thule bike hitch very easy to assemble and use. The only draw back is that I wish they had made it easier to collapse and store when it's not on the car. Also instead of a bold holding it to the receiver hitch a pass through pin would have been nice so the hitch could be locked to the car.

 "Horrible rack" 2008-09-29
By E. Younan (Detroit area, MI)
This is a terrible rack. It does not hold the bikes on securely as the straps are weak. I've have several scary highway moments. Plus, it does not separate the bikes and scratches and dings your bikes. It is poorly designed. Additionally, you have to buy a locking hitch pin to make it secure. Do not buy it unless you want to ruin your bikes.

I secured the pin and lock very easily and it seemed like it was all set. I drove about 3 hours and checked it and it was fine. I drove another 3 hours and the lock piece was gone. So be very very very carefull when you put on the lock. I was very carefull and I was 100% sure it was on correctly. So check it several times to make sure it is definitely secure. The pin alone will still keep your item attached so there is no safety issue.

I had a bumper hitch before so I never experienced the "clanking" or "yanking" of a regular hitch system. After about 4 trips dealing with the clanking & yanking and stopping to double check that everything was okay, I had had enough. After doing a couple hours of online research I decided on the Softride 25219 QuietRide Hitch Pin. The price was reasonable and the comments I read lead me to this choice. The installation was quick & simple. The results were as advertized. I no longer have the clanking and no longer feel the yanking. Quit looking and buy this product.

"OK as is, but not really what I needed it for without modification" 2008-11-22
By Gerald M. Debaker (Southeastern, MI USA)
Let me explain..I purchased the SWAGMAN BICYCLE CARRIER which is already threaded inside the hitch bar, but not lockable. I purchased this unit in hopes of being able to lock the carrier to the vehicle using the Softride 25219 QuietRide Hitch Pin. The threads did match the SWAGMAN BICYCLE CARRIER, but I had to shorten the shank of the lock by about 1/8" by grinding it off in order for the lock to snap into the locked position. This would not have been necessary if the threaded end was an 1/8" longer. I did not use the other parts that were supplied. I thought it was rather 'pricey' for an item not made in the USA. AMAZON.COM did a great job as usual.

"Works great for hollow stingers!" 2008-11-09
By Christopher J. Shaker (Bend, OR United States)
The Softride Quietride Hitch Pin works very well to stop the clunks that occured on my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The receiver is too large, letting every stinger (hitch mount) I've tried slop around and make lots of noise.

This locking hitch pin pulls the stinger tight to one side of the receiver, so that it doesn't rattle and clunk around. Note that this will *NOT* work with solid stingers. The stinger must be hollow to this clamping lock pin to work.
